Apartment 19 (previously 202019: Occasions) is a project that occasions fields of knowledge and practice outside of art to surface in artistic form, through a collaborative mode, and in a site-specific context. Centered around the practice of exhibition making, performance, and artists books, Apartment 19 leverages the social potential of contemporary art while bringing in people, things, and contexts that don’t necessarily live under its labels. 

Founded and run by Yiming Clara since December 2025, the project develops through a changing constellation of resident collaborators.

The current resident collaborator is Riley Zhou.

Apartment 19 began with the name 202019: Occasions. 

An occasion is a particular time or instance, a suitable or opportune time for doing something. This series of occasions is made by many borrowings, mostly of forms and formalities within that familiar grammar of the institution of art, which we use to stage an “opportune” time for doing something. That something is always a gathering of what matters, but always something else, elsewhere.
